Key Lighting
Hey people! If your here for the continuation of my last lighting post then well your in luck. Today I'm going to jump head into what Key lighting is and what Filler and Back lighting is and what they contribute to. So hold onto your phone or laptop because this is going to be a over load of info!
Key, Filler And Back Lighting?
So Key lighting is a must when taking a professional photo its normally stationed either slightly to the left or right of the of the model make sure it faces them as well. The key lighting is to emphasize the features of their face and bring more shape to them. It can be placed either high or low depending on what affect you want to create. Filler Lights are always placed the opposite side of the key light and more off to the side than the Key light is. This is so that it can fill in the shadows created by the key light hence the name! The fill light is optional since you may want to define these features but most interviewers and youtubers do this so they stand out in the video. On to the Back light the whole purpose of this light is so the character/ model separates from the background, this is normally placed not directly behind the subject but close enough so its not in the frame. Most movie scene's use the back light but to hide the light source they would put a lamp or some sort of light source behind to make the scene more realistic and not have the audience confused on where the hell that light is coming from. Something else great about Back lighting is that on most models your able to change the warmth of the light to match the fake light source either creating a warm orange tone or cool white one. I Told you guys this would be a big one but I hope your keeping up so far! That is all you need to know on the standard three point lighting set up so far I hope it has came in handy for you beginners! Now if you go down below you should see a example of a Back lighting photo I took what will show you more of what Back lighting is.

Back Lighting
Here is the photo of my friend I told you off, as you can see its completely different from the first photo in the other blog post I did where it was a Key lighting photo only. Here it shows you what Back lighting and only Back lighting can bring to a photo, you may remember certain movies scenes using this technique since it brings out a mysterious sorta vibe creating a dark atmosphere around the character.
No photo is complete till that back lighting is appears.
You can see where the lighting is hitting the back of his head making the background stand out more than the front of his body. This separates him from the back ground creating a sort of halo affect around him.
